Midland Young Athletes Relay Championships, 21st September 2008, Sutton Park, Birmingham

Following on from last week's winning streak from Uttoxeter, the Coritanian's claimed three medals in three of the age groups.

The Under 13 Girls retained last year's title, making this the third consecutive year that they have won this title with some outstanding performances. Livvy Tansey ran a solid first leg to place the team in a creditable 9th place. She managed to work her way through the pack to hand over to Mari Smith on the second leg in 16.10. Mari, who gains more confident race by race, plugged away at the leaders picking off four runners and reducing the 1min 13seconds deficit to 45 seconds before handing over to Amy Griffiths on the final leg in fifth place. Mari's lap time was 15.44. Amy ran a very commanding race and by the half way stage she had moved through the field closing the 45 second gap and putting down a marker to ensure that the Coritanians could not be caught. She finished the leg with the fastest time of the age group in 14.34.

The Under 15 Girls started strongly after a determined start from Megan Fairbrother. She battled hard to place the team in 5th place handing over to Geogie Brooks in a time of 14:55 and 22 seconds off the lead. Georgie picked off her targets and eased into third place with a time of 15.07 and reducing the gap to 11 seconds. The ever consistent Freya Vincent picked up the mantle and made inroads into the lead that was held by Halesowen. She closed the gap to 10 seconds finishing with 14.47 and claimed the team silver medal ahead of Charnwood AC in 3rd place.

The Under 17 Girls fielded a team for the first time in several years and walked away with the bronze team medal. The trio were in buoyant mood and their confidence shone through in their running. Amy Danaher started the charge with a 13th place in 16.17 to hand over to Louisa Monk who made up 25 seconds on the leaders to move up the leader board to 3rd overall. A brilliant run from Lucy Crookes in 14.49 consolidated the team’s position to guarantee them the bronze medal.
