We had a very good day taking four of the 8 team titles in the younger age groups and in addition to that we had four individual winners which ensured that we were by far the most successful club across the U13/U15/U17andU20 age groups.
There were team wins for the U13 and U15 Boys and also the U15 and U17 Girls. Added to that were second places for the U13 Girls and the U20 Men.
The wins for the boys teams were particularly encouraging, proving that we are an emerging force with squads that look to have the potential to match the achievements of our successful teams from the 1970s and 1980s!
The U13s led by Sam Elliott in second place won a very tight team race against Charnwood with our lads producing their very best on the day and the U15s delivered a superb 1-2-3-4 and 6 in the first 7 to totally dominate their race. Stefan Ashman was the individual winner confirming the excellent progress that he has made since joining the club in 2009.
We also a 1-2-4 in the U15 Girls race which comprehensively sealed the team trophy and there was an absorbing individual battle between Amy Griffiths and Megan Fairbrother with Megan coming out on top on this occasion to take the title.
A typically dominant piece of front running from Freya Vincent saw her win the U17 Girls race and good support ensured that we secured the team title too.
The U13 girls finished second on a day when collectively they were not at their best but there will be more opportunities in the coming weeks to produce their best.
There was another example of strong front running from Jake Kench as he ran away with the U17 Boys race to record the fourth individual victory for us in this year’s championships and added to that was an encouraging second place for the U20 Men as we continue to make progress at that level
