After near misses over the last three years, 2nd. places in 2008 and 2009 and 5th. in 2010, Leicester Coritanian Men's Masters took 1st. place in the M45 category at the British Masters Road Relay Championships at Sutton Park, Birmingham on Saturday.
Tommy Hughes led off recording a time of 16min:13 to bring the club home in 5th place behind eventual 3rd place finishers Telford A.C. Derek Guess took over chasing a deficit of 26 sec to record a time of 16min:13 to hand a 5 sec lead to Rob Sheen. Rob in turn ran 16mins:44 handing a 31 second lead to Andy Hart who ran 17mins:32. At the end of the fourth leg the lead had stretched to 65 sec with Telford dropping back and City of Oxford coming through to 2nd spot. Danny Keating ran 16 min:56 to hand over a lead of 47 sec to Steve Platts who ran the club's fastest leg of the day in 15 min:58 to complete the club's effort in a total time of 1 hr 39 min 54 sec against 2nd team finisher City of Oxford who recorded 1 hr 40 min 25 sec.
