Midland Masters Track & Field League

Report from 4th Midland Masters T&F League at Loughborough

There were several new PBs from our regular athletes last week - Sue Frisby actually achieved three (200m, Discus and Walks)! Peter Crossley (200m); John Duggan (Hammer and LJ); Chris Monk (Walks); Simon Cotton (Pole Vault, 800m and 3000m); Ian Wilkinson (Long Jump). Both our 4x100m gained team PBs in the 4x100m. [We are waiting for the photos of the relay teams and will post them here when they arrive.]

We have done very well to finish 6th in both the Men's and Women's Matches in our second year in the East Division of the Midlands.
Many of our team have already achieved the national BMAF Merit Standard in their disciplines and age groups either this year or last year (Alan Mellett, John Graham, Gordon Lee, Rashpal Singh, Sue Frisby and Sue Wright) - a consequence of this is that Sue Frisby, Alan Mellett, Rashpal Singh and Gordon Lee were all selected to represent the Midlands in the Inter-Area Match last weekend (although Gordon and Alan were not able to compete). Chris Monk was also a late addition to the relay squad - congratulations to all of them! (The Midlands won the Women's match and were 2nd in the Men's).

It was great to welcome three new athletes: Mona, Bibiana and Jeremy to their first match with us - I look forward to many more competitions!!

The last team competition will be the Cup Final Match at Worcester on Sunday 4th September - at this meeting we will be competing against all the other clubs in the Midlands. There is a very full programme (all ages and all events) and so we need all possible athletes to help out - please contact me if you would like to compete.

Midland Counties Y/A Championships - Aug 7th

Mari Smith continued her superb track season winning the Midland U15 1500 title with an example of assertive front running. She took the lead after the 1st 300 metres and then stretched away from the rest of the field to win by 6 seconds in a time of 4:48.44

English Schools Championships - July 1st/2nd

Congratulations to Forrest Francis and Mari Smith for their great medal winning performances at Gateshead.

Forrest dominated the Intermediate Boys discus with a gold medal throw of 48.18 metres - almost 5 metres clear of the rest of the field!!

Mari won silver in the Junior Girls 800 - she had a great battle with Bobby Clay as the two of them went clear approaching the bell and that's the way it stayed until the final 100 metres when Bobby resisted Mari's challenge coming off the bend and opened a small gap which she held to the finish

There were a number of other excellent performances from Coritanian athletes including Travelle Morris-Reid who just missed out on the bronze medal by a few centimetres in the Senior Boys Javelin and Lucy Crookes ran a personal best finishing 8th in the Senior Girls 3000 metres
