Trio perform at BMC Nike Elite Grand Prix, Watford (Saturday 9th June 2012)Mari Smith, Amy Griffiths and Emily Sales competed at the BMC Nike Grand Prix at Watford on Saturday night. The times that they had previously run this season had enabled them to compete at this event and they performed terrifically.
Mari Smith U17 women ran first in the 800m and knocked a further two seconds from her personal best time and reduced her own club record to win the race in 2.08.51. She beat the prolific Bobby Clay and this must give Mari a huge confidence boost for the track season and so must her 4th place in the Power of Ten rankings, an incredible feat because she is still a bottom aged athlete.
Amy Griffiths U17 women and Emily Sales U20 women both competed in the 1500m. Amy ran a new personal best of 4.29.22 which shoots her to 3rd on the Power of Ten rankings in her age group and it was just .22 outside of Maxine Newman's club record which has stood since 1987.
Emily ran a great race and was unlucky to come away with a time just 1 second outside her personal best with 4.39.82.
