McCain Cross Challenge race at Liverpool.

There were several athletes who competed at the UK McCain Cross Challenge Cross country race at Liverpool on Saturday. The conditions were extremely poor and not conducive to fast racing due to the continual heavy rain.

The Junior girls race was a combined U17 and U20 girls race because it incorporated the trials for the Europeans which is to be held in Hungary in December. Amy Griffiths, Mari Smith and Ella Shirley all competed in this race. Just coming back from five months out of the sport because of an injury, Amy ran a solid race to finish in 22nd place overall in the age group but she was 7th in the U17 age group. Mari was 39th overall and 13th in the U17 age group and Ella was 40th in the U17 age group.

On the back of her 10th fastest leg at the National Cross Country Relays a couple of week's ago, Jordan Waine (U13g) finished in a fine 11th place and great team packing from Fran Green meant that she finished in 20th place.

U17 men - Connor Haywood 84th place 21.13
U17 girls - Amy Griffiths 7th place 16.30, Mari Smith 13th place 16.57 and Ella Shirley 40th place 17.56
U15 girls - Alice Porter 45th place 12.27 and Mikela Gilmore 67th place 13.02
U15 boys - Cameron Smith 33rd place 11.01 and Matt Griffiths 100th place 12.16
U13 girls - Jordain Waine 11th place 12.03 and Fran Green 20th place 12.26
