Senior & Masters Men target Leicester Road Running League and Masters Cross Country ChampionshipsCoritanian Senior and Masters men took the decision to miss the Midland Counties Cross Country Championships and concentrate on the Leicester Road Running League and Midland Masters Cross Country Championships instead.
This decision appears to be totally justified as the day after the Midlands event Gordon Lee took 1st. place at the Barrow 6, the first race in the 2013 LRRL series, to lead both the senior and masters teams to victory. Gareth Deacon was 3rd M45, Rob Sheen 1st M50 and Derek Guess 3rd M50. The scoring members of the senior team were Gordon Lee, Matt Poynton, Gareth Deacon, Rob Sheen, Chris Southam, Craig Austin, Dave Pearce and Derek Guess. None scoring members were Dave Saunders, John Noble, Mark Batchelor and Chris Berwick. In the Masters race the scoring members were Gordon, Gareth, Rob and Chris.
A week after the LRRL event the Masters were in action again, this time at the Midland Masters Cross Country Championship at Wolverhampton, where Rob Sheen won the M50 race with Danny Keating coming 2nd in the M45’s. The team of Rob, Danny and Gareth Deacon won the M45- 54 team event with Derek Guess being the none scoring member of the team.
On the same day Gordon Lee was 1st M45 at the Alsager 5 and Ashley Sabin won the second race in the Centurian Road Runners Grand Prix series at Chelmsley Wood. Craig Sabin was 2nd M50
