Successful day at Midland Road Relays.

It was a hugely successful day at the Midland Road Relays at Sutton Park on Saturday where Leicester Coritanians claimed two gold and two silver medals.

The Masters team were first across the finishing post and the incredible team had all six runners finishing in the top 33 fastest leg times! Their cumulative time of 2:01.18 was 1 minute and 22 seconds ahead of second placed team Bristol & West.

Gorden Lee led off the team with the second fastest leg of the day in 18:27 to hand over to Chris Southam. Chris' time of 19:34 was the 5th quickest leg and it took him into the lead and from there, it was never relinquished. Gareth Deacon then took over on the 3rd stage to record his time of 20:23 where he passed over to Danny Keating who completed his leg in 21:17. Rob Sheen completed the penultimate stage in 20:31 with Simon Cotton taking over for the glory leg with his time of 21:06.

James Hatton led the way in the U17 men race with his leg time of 12:30 which was the second quickest leg of the day. Handing over to Tom Loring, who ran the fourth quickest leg time in 12:40 to take the team into the gold medal position, Tom handed over to Cameron Smith whose time of 13:18 was enough to seal the win by 7 seconds over Halesowen.

Such is the strength and depth in this age group that the 'B' team of Cameron Hart, Jack Thomson and Luke Beeby finished just outside the medals in 5th place and were the first 'B' team home.

Silver medals were won by Pascal Bouttier-Butler (13:28), Josh West (13:33) and Matt Griffiths (13:36) where their consistent performances were timed at within 8 seconds of each other in the U15 age group.

Both Mari Smith (14:09) and Caelidh Ross (14:14) had the second and third fastest legs of the day in the U17 women's race. Ella Shirley (17:06) faced Charnwood's on form, Hannah Nuttall, who had the fastest leg of the day with her time of 13:19. After feeling unwell in the race, Ella managed to keep her composure and complete the race to take the team silver medal and the team still managed to finish ahead of bronze medallists Kettering Town Harriers with 2 minutes, 47 seconds to spare!

Neve Grimes will certainly be pleased with her 3rd fastest leg time in the U13g race. Her time of 15:04 was a solid start for the team, who were disappointed to be just outside of the medals in 4th place. Neve handed over to Grace Smith whose time of 15:40 was the 11th quickest time of the day and Connie-Mae Roper brought the team home in 4th place with her time of 17:15.
