Gold rush continues for Dijkstra!

Ben Dijkstra looked supreme this weekend at the English Schools Cross Country Championships, which was held at Castle Donnington, when he won the Inter Boys race comfortably. The course was relatively flat and fast with a few tufty areas for the athletes to contend with. The main problem was the wind, which was made more difficult by low flying aircraft from the nearby airport.

With another year in the Inter Boys age group, Ben won the race with a time of 18.46 to beat silver medallist Jamal Lewis from Bedfordshire by 6 seconds and to win an England vest for next weekends SIAB's Home Countries International, which is being held in Bolton. With gold medals won at the English National Championships, Inter Counties and now at English Schools, Ben must surely want to round off his collection with another gold at the SIAB's.

Jordan Waine finished in a fine 10th place in the Junior Girls race and just missed out on an England vest by 5 seconds! The youngster completed her race in 10.32 and is a reserve for the SIAB's next weekend, where only the top 8 athletes are selected to compete.
