Gold for Ben in the 3000m at English Schools Championships
Ben Dijkstra won gold in the Inter Boys 3000m at the English Schools Championships, which was held in Birmingham on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July. Ben has enjoyed tremendous success and yesterdays race was another medal to add to his ever growing collection. He ran a well controlled race to ensure he was victorious, despite being a bottom aged inter boy and he added this gold to his 1500m gold from last years Junior Boys race. His time was 8:40.69
Also in the same race as Ben was Alfie Thomspon, who finished in 13th place in a time of 9:02.99.
Caelidh Ross and Mari Smith both made it through to the Senior Girls 800m final and finished in 6th place and 8th place with their times of 2:11.24 and 2:14.81 respectively.
In the 1500m Sam Stevens finished in 9th place in the Inter Boys final with his time of 4:04.98 and Jordan Waine was 10th in the Junior Girls final in 4:48.15.
Each of the athletes gave a great account of themselves, with many of them experiencing a competition where there are qualifying heats and finals for the first time.
