Following on from their Road Relay success at Sutton Park 3 weeks ago, James Bell, Ben Dijkstra and Alfie Thompson showed that they can perform equally well on the country by adding the National X/C Relays title to their impressive record. Ben also repeated his fastest lap performance from Sutton Park making it an individual double for him to add to the team victory
It was great to see Alfie Thompson lead throughout the final lap after his misfortune at Sutton Park when he wasn't allowed to run in the A team - this time he led the team home in style!
The B-Team also ran really well finishing 19th overall - 10 places ahead of the next B squad.
Also on the individual front, Amy Griffiths had an outstanding run to finish 2nd fastest on the day, 20 seconds behind Jessica Judd.

Congratulations to all of our young athletes on their fantastic achievement at the Midland Counties Road Relays. This was without doubt one of the best days we have ever had at a major championship! To win 5 sets of medals from 6 age groups with no less than three golds is almost unprecedented.
There was a whole host of sparkling performances including 3 fastest laps and 2 runners up but the overriding impression of an outstanding day was the collective team performance where the commitment and spirit was there for all to see.

The sad passing of Ted Toft means that Road and Cross Country running in Leicestershire will not be quite the same again! Ted was unique and he will leave a gap that will be very hard to fill.
However, Ted's legacy will be that his huge input and commitment to our sport over more than 40 years will ensure that the heartbeat of distance running in the county and beyond will continue to grow in strength long into the future.
Ted was a great character who has inspired generations of athletes and coaches alike, all of whom have benefited from his vast experience and wise counsel. No one ever had a bad word to say about Ted and in many ways that says everything about him.
More tributes on the General Personal Page.

The photograph above shows Ted on January 30th of last year carrying out one of his last duties as President of the Midland Counties Cross Country Association presenting the winning medals to the Coritanian U15 girls team. He always took great pride in any of the club's achievements and this was a proud moment for him

Amy was one of 40 top young athletes chosen from across the country to spend a day with Kelly Holmes at Loughborough University on December 4th. The day was billed as 'Future Stars With Kelly' and it provided Amy with a great opportunity to meet her peers and to benefit from the experience passed on from the Double Olympic Champion.
In the U13 Boys and U15 girls respectively, Sam finished a brilliant 3rd and Mari an outstanding 5th, underlining the great progress that they have both made this season!

U15 Girls finish within a whisker of the bronze medals just losing out to Lincoln Wellington within sight of the finishing line - More details on the Cross Country Page.

This was a performance out of the very top drawer as we placed TWO U13 BOYS TEAMS in the top 6 at Sutton Park on Oct 17th. The A-Team led from early on the second leg to within sight of the finish! Ben Dijkstra's brave effort to front run the final leg was only thwarted inside the last 100 metres and it needed the fastest lap of the day from Bradley Yates of Sale Harriers to pull him back. Sam Elliott with the 3rd fastest overall time had given the team a great start finishing only one second down on the stage winner and Alfie Thompson quickly moved into the lead handing over a lead of around 70 metres to Ben. This was a terrific effort from the lads and they were over 20 second faster than last year's winners.
Special mention must also be made of the stunning B-Team result which saw them finish 6th overall - an exceptional effort in anyone's language. The squad of Luke Beeby, George and James Bell can be rightly proud of their performance
Credit also to the U15 Girls who finished 5th just short of a medal
More details of this and the other team results on the Road Running Page.

This year, as a team, they have targeted 20 races, winning 18 and coming 2nd and 5th in the other two. There have also been many individual successes as the squad continues to raise the bar

Medal winning debut for Senior Ladies at Melton
More details on the Cross Country Page.
There was further clear evidence of the of the way the club is building for the future with successes across all age groups at Sutton Park on Saturday and Sunday, Sept 25th/26th.
The Senior Men finished in the top 10 for the first time in many years and was also the highest placed Leicestershire team. This bodes very well for the future as the U17s and U20s will be stepping up to senior level where they will benefit from the experience of our established Masters and growing Seniors squad.
On the Sunday it was success all the way with team gold and silver medals for the U13 Boys and U15 Girls, two 4th placings for the U15 Boys and U17 Boys and two individual fastest laps. In addition to that, the U13 Boys B - Team finished in an unprecedented 2nd place giving Coritanians a remarkable 1-2 in that age group.
Overall we repeated our performances from the 2010 X/Country championships by once again being the strongest Midland Counties club across the six young athletes age groups on the day!

Given excellent conditions at Watford on June 30th both Amy Griffiths and George Bell grabbed the opportunity to run a fast time in the BMC 1500 Gold Standard and Open 1500 series. Amy's time of 4:37:21 moves her up to 4th in the UK U15 age group which should give her a lot of confidence ahead of the ESAA Championships this coming weekend and George too is now 4th in the U13 Boys.
