In order to provide good training opportunities for our younger athletes who may live some distance away from the centre of Leicester we have two main endurance groups. This gives athletes from both the north and south sides of Leicester easy access to training thereby avoiding journeys across the city at busy times.
The Leicester based group meets at Saffron Lane Sports Centre on a Tuesday in the Winter months and various venues including Saffron Lane on Thursdays. The sessions start at 6:30pm. The group is coached by Rob Griffiths and Brendan Martin assisted by a number of level one coaches. Countesthorpe College is the main venue during the Summer months for both Tuesdays and Thursdays, once again with a 6:30pm start. The older members of this group also run at Bradgate Park on a Sunday morning providing an opportunity for a traditional long Sunday run and for everyone to get together socially. Rob and Brendan also organise a strength and conditioning session at Leysland High School on Monday evening from September to April - 6:30pm start.
The second group is coached by Paul Blissett and Bill Winter assisted by a number of the club's experienced senior runners. This group meets at Bradgate Park every Sunday morning starting from the Newtown Linford Car Park at 10am. The group also meets on Tuesdays at 6:30pm rotating around various venues mainly in the Quorn and Woodhouse Eaves area depending on the time of year and training priorities. Paul also organises a Thursday session in the summer months at the Loughborough Grammar School Playing Fields, Quorn and either Broombriggs or Beacon Road, Loughborough in the winter. Bill has a Thursday session too based at Leysland High School, Countesthorpe in the summer and Glen Parva in the winter. Bill also organises a strength and conditioning session at the new Beaumont Leys School Sportshall on Monday evenings from September to May - 6:30pm start.
Both groups train together at Bradgate on a Sunday and special training weekends are organised at least twice a year when everyone can go together to places such as the Yorkshire Dales and Derbyshire. The groups also combine for some sessions on Tuesdays alongwith occasional Saturdays, including visits to Dovedale, providing opportunities for high quality training and team bonding.
The majority of the male Seniors and Masters only train occasionally at Saffron Lane. There are regular sessions for this group at Watermead Park. Contact Tony Forryan for details. However, some do train regularly on a Tuesday at Saffron Lane.
Some Senior Ladies and most of the U20 Women and Men train with Paul and Bill
